One of the Foundation’s Hope for Kids Partners was a featured speaker in the 2014 TEDxMaui event. Hāna resident Rick Rutiz tells of his experiences working with at-risk youth in remote East Maui through his award winning organization Ma Ka Hana Ka ‘Ike, which mobilizes them to learn construction skills to benefit themselves and their community. The mission of Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke (“In Working, One Learns”) is to provide at-risk youth with a way to learn that makes sense to them, that builds their self-esteem and shows them they have the power to change their future.
Recorded at TEDxMaui 2014, held on September 28, 2014 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. (Source: http://tedxmaui.com/rick-rutiz-rethinking-education-one-building-time/)
